Our Vision
It's so simple. Jesus said the two greatest commandments are to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. Everything we do is based on this simple (but not easy!) teaching: love God, love yourself, and love your neighbors - all of them!
Our Ministries

Community Service
Katonah UMC is often described as "small but mighty,” and Purdys UMC is known as “the little church with the big heart.” Here are just a few of the ways we make a difference in our world:

-
Table of Grace - We offer a hot lunch -- to anyone who is hungry physically or spiritually, or both -- every Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Brewster. We will also be offering ESL practice and instruction, as well as computers for job seekers.
-
Emergency Shelter Partnership - We provide shelter and three meals per day for homeless and hungry people for a week during the winter.
-
UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Health Kits - We assemble hygiene kits that are distributed in disaster-stricken areas.
-
Faith in Action Sunday - Once each year we replace our regular worship with service projects such as singing in a nursing home or doing yard work for an affordable housing project.
-
Rising Hope - We teach, correspond with, pray for, and support prisoners.
-
Appalachia Service Project - We spend a week in Appalachia making homes warmer, safer, and drier.
-
We give volunteer and financial support to organizations such as The Community Center of Northern Westchester, The Emergency Shelter Partnership, A-Home, and Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

Children & Youth
Young people are a top priority in our churches. Here are some of the ways we work to give them a faith foundation and a place to belong:
-
Sunday School - We teach the Bible, using a variety of learning styles (Art, Cooking, Science, Games, etc.), to preschool and elementary school children following Children's Time in worship.
-
Youth Group - Teens have the opportunity to explore their faith together so that they can choose whether to be confirmed as members of the church. The youth group also participates in various service projects, educational events such as visiting Chuang Yen Monastery, or fun outings such as Coney Island.
-
Children's Time - Whether it's learning a song with hand motions or seeing a Bible story illustrated with a magic trick, there is always a special message for the children during worship.
-
Nursery - Nursery care is offered during worship.

Adult Ministry
Whether we're balancing work and family, or dealing with the challenges of illness, aging, or financial struggles, we all need a connection to spirituality in community.

-
Midweek Meditation & Prayer - On Wednesdays at noon, we offer a prayer service on Zoom as well as in the Katonah sanctuary. Guided meditation is followed by a time of sharing and praying with one another. This prayer circle is an anchor of our faith community.
-
Bible Study - Bible Study normally meets over Zoom on Fridays from 12-1 pm.
-
Seasonal Study Group - During special times of the year such as Lent or Advent, we join together with other churches in our area for a short-term adult study.
If you’re interested in any of these small group meetings, email us for the Zoom information.

Community Engagement
-
We participate in interfaith ministries such as the Women of Faith scripture study series, and serve as a member of the Northern Westchester Interfaith Council.
-
We established, and continue to support, the non-sectarian organization Katonah SPACE: Spirituality, Arts & Community for Everyone.
-
Our Racial Justice Team works to interrupt racism within our own congregations, while also partnering with community groups working for racial justice.
-
We participate in Town events such as Pride Day, Memorial Day, and Juneteenth.
-
We have a partnership with Iglesia Pleno Renacer, a Spanish-speaking congregation who meets in the Katonah church periodically.
