About Community Outreach
At Katonah-Purdys UMC, we are committed to making a positive impact right here in our community. Known as “small but mighty” and “the little church with the big heart,” we partner with local organizations and neighbors to address real needs, foster authentic relationships, and spread hope. Through outreach events, service projects, advocacy, and support initiatives, we share God’s love in practical ways that truly make a difference.

What We Do

Sharing Meals at Table of Grace
Every Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Brewster we make up bagged lunches or a hot meal in winter, and hand out/serve to those in need while getting to know the community through conversation.

The Appalachia Service Project
This long-standing mission to Appalachia prepares teens and young adults for a transformative week of not only making homes warmer, safer, and dryer, but a spiritual impact on the volunteers.

Be a Part of Faith in Action Sunday
Once each year we replace our regular worship with service projects such as singing in a nursing home or doing yard work for an affordable housing project.

Katonah SPACE
We established, and continue to support, the non-sectarian organization Katonah SPACE: Spirituality, Arts & Community for Everyone.

Town Event Participation
We participate in Town events such as Pride Day, Memorial Day, and Juneteenth.

Emergency Shelter Partnership
During winter, we offer shelter and three daily meals to homeless individuals for a week, providing warmth, nourishment, and a welcoming haven from the cold.

Northern Westchester Community Center
We support food drives, back to school supplies, clothing for special occasions (e.g., Share the Warmth around the winter holidays, Prom Clothing), and other special drives that the Community Center needs.

Racial Justice Team
We established, and continue to support, the non-sectarian organization Katonah SPACE: Spirituality, Arts & Community for Everyone.

Church Partnerships
We have a partnership with Iglesia Pleno Renacer, a Spanish-speaking congregation who meets in the Katonah church periodically.

United Methodist Committee on Relief
As part of our commitment to community service, we assemble UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Health Kits, providing essential hygiene items for distribution in disaster-stricken areas.

Interfaith Ministries
We participate in interfaith ministries such as the Women of Faith scripture study series, and serve as a member of the Northern Westchester Interfaith Council.

“The compassionate actions of its members most accurately measure the greatness of a community.”
