Weekly Bulletin - January 9, 2022

This Sunday we remember the baptism of Jesus as well as our own.

Baptism of the Lord Sunday

Scripture Reading: Luke 3:15-22

Sermon: “Original Blessing"

Reverend Melissa Boyer, Minister

Peter Muir, Guest Musician

Worship will continue to be offered over Zoom and Facebook Live as well as in person at Katonah UMC. (Worship is at Purdys UMC on the first Sunday of each month.)

Here's what to expect when you come to worship in person:

  1. Masks are required at all times. Congregational singing is suspended for now, but soloists or a small choir may sing while masked.

  2. We will continue to have hand sanitizer stationed at entrances.

  3. We will continue using individually packaged cup-and-wafer servings for communion. You are also still welcome to bring your own bread and juice from home.

  4. The offering plate will remain at the back of the sanctuary for now, rather than being passed around.

  5. Passing of the peace during worship is still suspended.

Table of Grace, a mission of our Cooperative Parish, offers a hot lunch every Saturday

at the First UMC of Brewster.

The Mission of Table of Grace is to feed those who are hungry and to nourish body, mind and spirit. Whether in need or in wealth, all are welcome at the table.

Since 2020, the Table of Grace Community Kitchen has been serving bagged lunches outside the First Methodist Church of Brewster. As of this week, we're now serving pre-packaged hot lunches to go, in order to be more cautious in the midst of the COVID upswing.

Thanks to a generous grant from the United Methodist City Society, and our membership with Hudson Valley Food Bank, we are able to provide our volunteers with most of the foods needed to prepare hot meals each Saturday. We've been given three computers and will have them available soon for job searches and resume development. We also plan to offer ESL practice and instruction once COVID restrictions ease again.

We welcome all volunteers, whether affiliated with a church or not. For more information, email Bonnie Hyatt at jesusfishlady@gmail.com, or click here to sign up to volunteer.

Worship Information

Star Words

If you were not in person in worship this Sunday, you didn't get a Star Word! Just as we rely on stars for guidance, your star word can give you things to think about and sharpen your focus for 2022. For example, if the word you get is "freedom," you can notice where you and others are or are not free. If you'd like Pastor Melissa to randomly pick a star word for you, email contact@katonahumc.org

Worship will be held this Sunday at 10:30 am inside the sanctuary of Katonah UMC, 5 Bedford Road, Katonah, NY 10536. While it is likely prudent for most to stay at home during this spike, we will keep the option available for those who want to come to worship in person.

(Worship will always be at Purdys on the first Sunday of the month,

and at Katonah the remaining Sundays.)
